PE at S.Y. Jackson

Welcome to PE at SY Jackson.  My name is Karen Schoepke (shep-key).  I graduated from The University of Wisconsin at Madison, moved to Albuquerque and began teaching in 1988.  I have taught fourth grade at SY Jackson since 2002 and am now the PE teacher.  My passion is Step Aerobics and Volleyball.

Physical education is the instructional program that provides the opportunity for all students to learn and develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for life-long fitness.

It meets the NM content standards with benchmarks and performance standards.

Physical activity is body movement of any type which includes recreational, fitness and sport activities.

It includes before and after-school programs, intramurals, physical activity clubs, walk and bike to school programs, and integrating movement into the school day.

Did you know that physically active kids are better learners?
Studies show that physically active children are more likely to perform better on standardized tests.

We are proud to be a Let's Move Active School member!

Big Shoe Award Details

In an attempt to keep students' feet safe, I have created The Big Shoe Award.
Each week during PE, your son's/daughter's class will earn a sticker towards The
Big Shoe Award.   In order to earn a sticker, every student needs to be in a
closed toe shoe.  Footwear that prevents the class from earning a sticker include:

  • flip flops
  • sandals
  • Crocs
  • fashion boots
  • cowboy boots
  • snow boots

The students have PE once a week.  If they wear the above mentioned footwear, have them put tennis shoes in their backpack that day.  The Big Shoe Award will be presented twice a year: December and May. Here is list of the days your son/daughter has PE:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
